Island City Gallery’s ‘Holiday Gift Gallery - A Gathering of Gifts by Local Artists’ closing December 24

Island City Gallery, 119 East Third Street,“Holiday Gift Gallery – A Gathering of Gifts by Local Artists” show closes on December 24. This will be the gallery’s final show.

The Holiday Gift Gallery gives area shoppers and visitors a chance to purchase gifts from a wide selection of artists at one downtown location.

Island City Gallery opened in April and has been a place where several area artists have shown their art. It has been located in the space owned by Lyon Smith whose Smith Gallery was the previous art concern located in the space. In the future, there will be another art organization located in the space.

“Because the space was once a gallery, it had the potential to be revitalized into a great art space,” said Julie Johnston, whose paintings have been a feature of the gallery along with the silver jewelry of Rick and Maryann Frietsche.

“With Rick Frietsche’s work rejuvenating the space, we were able to use three rooms for display which allowed us to invite many other artists into the gallery.”

The current show, a Holiday Gift Gallery, features many local artists including:

Toni Ambrosen, drawings and cards; Linda Sue Eastman, leather goods; Gary Flynn, wood carving; Rick and Maryann Frietsche, silver and stone jewelry; Julie Johnston, paintings, pastels, cards and prints, Robert Keiper, flint knapping; Karen Linde, handwoven baskets; Ann Mathews and Beth George, cement creations; Kathie Mayo, felted wool; Jamie Schell, wood art; Teresa Schumaker, pottery; Lyon Smith, wood carving; And Lisa Truax, pottery.

Regular gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On December 24 the gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call Julie Johnston at 507-961-0504 or Maryann Frietsche at 507-429-8750.
