Pictured is Anne Pellowski, local author and storyteller, in Kigali, Rwanda. In November, she led a workshop on sewing (with treadle machines as well as hand sewing) for 16 young women, teaching them to make cloth books and other items to sell at the local market. Several Daughters of Charity (the religious order that Pellowksi’s sister, Sister Virginia Pellowski, is a member of) also took the workshop. They made books for the children they work with in the low cost day care centers. The cloth books are used to help set young children on the road to literacy in French and Kinyarwanda.
