Winona Friendship Center members will receive a renewal letter a month before they need to renew their membership. Yearly memberships are $27 for individuals and $37 for a couple (two per household). Interested community members may stop into the center to renew or purchase a membership. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

2017 Active Wellness Center membership

Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. WSU exercise science students are available for monitoring and training. The center has older adult friendly exercise equipment, and workout programs designed specifically for each individual. Release forms must be filled out prior to workout on the first day; forms will be faxed to participants’ doctors to avoid charges for an office visit.  

Payment is required upon registering. The cost for members is $74 annually.

Book Club

The club is facilitated by  Louise Mattila and will discuss “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak on June 27 from noon to 1 p.m. It is free for members.

 

Acrylic painting class

Sylvia Tolzin, Backyard Brushes, will facilitate this class on Monday, July 3, from 2-5 p.m. The cost for members is $25. No experience is necessary.

In these sessions all artists will follow and paint the same picture as the instructor. Instructions and supplies are provided. Make your own masterpiece to take home for yourself or to give as a gift. Registration ends on June 29

 

Winona County

Dive & Rescue

This free for members event will be presented by  Tim Emmons on Friday, July 7, from noon to 1 p.m.

The Winona County Dive and Rescue Team was started in 1983. This team is comprised of volunteers who are on-call 24 hours a day. The team is responsible for water search and rescue in Winona County. Please register.

 

 

 

Teleconference: First Encounters: When the Conquistadors met the Karankawa

This class will be offered by the Bullock State History Museum on Tuesday, July 11, from 1-2 p.m. It is free for members.

 

Minn. Safety Council Defensive Driving 55+ Refresher Course

This course will be held on Monday, July 17, from 6-10 p.m. The cost for members is $17 and $26 for non-members. Registration ends on July 3.

This is a four-hour safety driving class with 10 percent discount on insurance, for those who have already taken the initial eight-hour class. There is no driving and no test. You will receive a certificate of completion to provide to your insurance company.

 

9 Ball Singles Pool Tournament

This tournament will be held on Wednesday, July 19, at 9 a.m. The cost for members is $1.75. All skill levels are welcome. The tournament will be double elimination, best two out of three games.

 

Island City Brewery Tour

This tour will be held on Friday, July 21, from 12:45-3:15 p.m. The cost for members is $16.

The group will take the Trester Trolley to and from the new Island City Brewery and tour the tap and production rooms. Learn the science and history of beer brewing as well as taste and smell ingredients through the brewing process. It will include a tour and social hour at the brewery and your own free pint glass. Registration ends on July 7.

 

Jewelry class – earrings

Barbara Saykally will instruct this class on Thursday, August 17, from 1-4 p.m. The cost for members is $18. This class will provide an opportunity to create your own earrings. Learn the basics of making earrings. Choose from gemstones, crystals or pearls for your own style. All levels of experience are welcome and all materials are provided. Registration ends on July 19.
