Music faculty members from the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse will present a performance on Friday, October 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Old Main in Galesville. The trio of performers will be Mary Tollefson, piano; Derek Clark, cello; and Jonathan Borja, flute. The program will be drawn from the music of Samuel Zyman. Born in Mexico, Zyman is a New York-based composer who serves on the faculty at the Julliard School of Music. His style is a combination of neo-romantic harmonies, jazz, and lyrical melodies.
Gale Star performances at Old Main feature leading musicians and music faculty from the coulee region, student performers, emerging musical groups, and people who just love to perform. Old Main is a stone building constructed by Wisconsin pioneers in 1862 to be the home for Galesville University. The program offered at Old Main seeks to stimulate the cultural experience of people living in the coulee region.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for college students, and free for people 18 and under. Refreshments are offered at intermission.
Old Main is located at 20869 College Avenue in Galesville. Turn into Galesville at the stoplight; from the Galesville square take West Gale or West Ridge Avenue to County Road T; from T turn south at 12th Street and turn right on College Avenue. Signs will be posted, and the building is lighted.
