PUSH Physical Theatre to perform at Saint Mary’s

Enjoy intense athleticism, gravity-defying acrobatics, and soulful artistry as the Page Series at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota presents PUSH Physical Theatre on Saturday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Page Theatre.

PUSH Physical Theatre is a genre-defining master of physical storytelling. These award-winning performers express what it means to be human: the joy and sorrow, humor and tragedy, the big questions and the simple things. Their repeated sold-out performances have led to creative collaborations with the National Institute for the Deaf and Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as choreography for the Pulitzer-nominated cantata “Comala,” which resulted in a Mexico and U.S. tour. The company was a finalist in TruTV’s national series, “Fake Off,” where judge and Glee star Harry Shum Jr. proclaimed, “You guys are superhuman!”

PUSH’s performances bring the narratives of our lives to the stage with hope and optimism. Through vignettes ranging from the comedic “Red Ball,” which employs iPad technology, to the emotional “The Soldier,” PUSH Physical Theatre conveys the strength of the human soul expressed by the power of the human body.

On Friday, December 1, at 3 p.m. in the Page Theatre, the company will present a free lecture-demonstration, The Science Behind the Story. In this one-hour presentation, PUSH will explore the science of fulcrums, human physiology, and more to reveal the structure and mechanics behind their unique brand of physical storytelling. This artist talk includes opportunities for audience participation and a preview of their Saturday evening performance.

Tickets to the December 2 performance are $27 for adults and $24 for students and senior citizens. Tickets and additional information are available at pagetheatre.org or by calling 507-457-1715 from noon to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
