Jazz students at Saint Mary’s University continue their semester-long celebration of music by four legendary jazz musicians, all born in 1917, with a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald. Swing into the holidays on Friday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m. as the jazz groups and guest vocalists bring Ella’s holiday classics to the Page Theatre.
“Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas” was released in 1960 and featured the “first lady of song” on many holiday favorites. Swinging With Ella will also highlight the singer’s work with the Duke Ellington and Count Basie bands. And the three “birthday boys” — Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaria, and Thelonius Monk — are sure to make a return visit as well. Honoring the “first lady of song” with their vocal talents will be Saint Mary’s students Courtney McGovan, Darren Cajipo, Erin McCoy, and Shauna Frahm.
For more information, contact St. Mary’s Director of Jazz Studies A. Eric Heukeshoven at 507-457-7292 or email@example.com. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors, and are available at www.pagetheatre.org or by calling the Page Theatre Box Office at 507-457-1715.
