Pirates is the theme of the next Over the Back Fence community variety show presented by Lanesboro Arts on Friday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the historic St. Mane Theatre in downtown Lanesboro. The song “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me),” a comedic sketch by actor Scott Dixon, and a preview of Lanesboro Community Theater’s “Music Man” production will each be part of a swashbuckling evening that includes a creative blend of skits, jokes, stories, and sing-alongs.
July’s show features musical guest Chris Koza, a nationally-recognized Minnesota-based folk-pop and Americana songwriter who will be in Lanesboro all week for a mini-residency at Lanesboro Arts that culminates in a concert with a full band at the St. Mane Theatre on Saturday, July 14. Koza has invited members of the variety show cast to join him on stage to provide vocal accompaniment on one of his songs. Interested individuals of all ages are encouraged to join Koza at a rehearsal with cast members on July 10 and/or July 13 at 5:30 p.m.
Host Damon Prestemon brings comedic wit and spot-on improvisational instincts that move the show forward while bringing out the best of the performers and guests on stage. The show’s musical director is Heidi Dybing of Lanesboro. Doors open for seating at 7 p.m. and Maria Klingsheim, a vocalist from Harmony, Minn., will provide pre-show music beginning at 7:10 p.m.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online at www.lanesboroarts.org, in person at the Lanesboro Arts gallery at 103 Parkway Avenue North, or at the door at the St. Mane Theatre — as available — beginning at 6:30 p.m. on show nights. The St. Mane Theatre is located at 206 Parkway Avenue North.
