Ensemble Druzhba is a group of classical musician friends who get together for special performances. Druzhba means “friendship” in Russian. On Sunday, September 30, at 3 p.m., the ensemble will perform the “Quintet in A Major for Clarinet,” by Mozart, and then regroup a bit, exchanging the clarinet for piano to perform “Quintet in A Major, Op. 81,” by Dvořák. Ensemble Druzhba includes Harry Hindson, clarinet; Kristina Gullion, violin; Michelle Lee Elliott, violin; Busya Lugovier, viola; Derek Clark, cello; and Paul Kovacovic, piano. All of these exceptional musicians have performed with symphonies, orchestras, chamber groups, and more, so there is too much biographical information to include it all here. Harry Hindson is currently with the La Crosse and Winona symphonies, principal clarinet with the La Crosse Concert Band, and saxophone with the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra. Kristina Gullion is a member of the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and the Dubuque Symphony. Michelle Lee Elliott has enjoyed a diverse musical career as a chamber musician, orchestral musician, and soloist. Busya Lugovier coaches chamber music at the School District of La Crosse and maintains a private studio. Derek Clark is a member of Bluffside Consort, Crescendo String Quartet, and the cello instructor at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He also maintains a private studio. Paul Kovacovic loves to teach piano and compose as well as perform. He has taught at Viterbo University and is currently based in the Twin Cities. Come to the performance to read their complete stories; they are very impressive.
The Old Main Gale Star program seeks to present the finest folk, classical and popular music in the historic, acoustically live auditorium of its stone building where many artists love to perform. The chance to hear these excellent musicians, who have performed across the U. S. and other parts of the world, is not to be missed. Please note the correct time is 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 30. (The wrong time appeared on an earlier flyer.)
Complimentary refreshments are served at intermission in the gallery, where everyone can enjoy the photography of Greg Roskos. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for college students. People in high school and younger are free. Everyone is welcome.
To find Old Main turn south from Ridge Aven ue at 12th Street, then take a right on College Avenue. The stone building is lighted; new Old Main street signs are up.
