Wis. hunter dies after tree-stand fall



An Arcadia man was found dead on Thursday after falling from a tree stand while hunting, according to the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department.

John P. Simerson, 48, of Arcadia, was found in the woods near Kukowski Lane. According to the report, deputies received a report at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, that Simerson had not returned home after archery hunting earlier that day.

A search and rescue operation was conducted by the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office, Arcadia Police Department, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Arcadia Fire Department, Arcadia Ambulance, Dodge Fire Department, and Dodge First Responders. The search party reportedly found Simerson and determined that he was deceased.

An initial investigation reportedly showed that the Simerson fell from a tree stand and sustained fatal injuries, but the accident is still under investigation.
