The Cotter High School Choirs will present their annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the beautiful Chapel of St. Mary of the Angels. The Chapel of St. Mary of the Angels is located on the corner of Vila and Wabasha streets.
Each choir, the Cotter Concert Choir and Show Choir, will present a variety of seasonal selections. Concert Choir selections will include “O Holy Night,” a choral favorite that incorporates “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” in the piano accompaniment. Also on the program is “Christmas Is Coming” and “A Winter Noel.” The Concert Choir will sing other holiday selections and traditional Christmas carols as well.
The Show Choir’s selections are more popular and contemporary. The Cotter Show Choir will perform upbeat selections such as “We Belong,” recorded by ‘80s artist Pat Benatar, and a ‘70s favorite, “September,” recorded by Earth, Wind, and Fire.
The last portion of the concert is dedicated to those who enjoy the more traditional Christmas carols such as “The First Noel,” “Joy to the World,” and others. All Cotter Choir alumni are invited to join the Concert Choir in the traditional singing of “Peace, Peace” as the closing selection.
The Cotter Choirs are under the direction of Cathy Snyder.
Laurie Broghammer and Mark Roeckers will accompany on piano. The Show Choir choreographer is Madeline Beuning.
Everyone is welcome, and there is no admission fee.
The Cotter High School Band will perform its Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 16, at 2 p.m. in the St. Cecilia Theatre on Cotter’s campus. The next day, Monday, December 17, at 7 p.m. the Cotter Junior High School band and choir will perform a joint Christmas concert. This event is also in the St. Cecilia Theatre.
All concerts are free and open to the public.
