The Winona Film Society will present “Un Traductor” on Friday, January 25, at 7 p.m. at The Winona Arts Center, 228 East Fifth Street.
Based on a true story in the wake of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, Malin, a Russian literature professor at the University of Havana, is sent to translate for the Soviet children who have been brought to Cuba for medical treatment. Malin, entrenched in the lives of the Chernobyl children, fails to notice his own family’s suffering. He tires to put his life together and become a better person along the way.
This 107-minute film was directed by Rodrigo and Sebastian Barriuso in 2018 (Cuba, Canada in Spanish and Russian).
Admission for the screening is $5 at the door. Patrons may bring their own treats and beverages.
