Winona poet Steve Schild will read from his new collection, “These Humans,” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, at Paperbacks and Pieces, 429 Mankato Avenue, Winona.
“These Humans” is “a symphonic presentation of us as a species,” wrote Winona Poet Laureate Ken McCullough. “The images are clear, the language is crisp, the lyricism is deft” and “always the poetry exhibits an unerring ear.”
John Reinhard, author of “On the Road to Patsy Cline” and “Burning the Prairie,” wrote, “These poems celebrate at least as often as they mourn, soothe more than they fume.” The poems address “our primary work: being human, something that too often these days seems to be regarded as a sort of silliness.”
Schild, who teaches at Saint Mary’s University, was a silver medalist from the Midwest Publishing Association for his 2014 collection “Eros in Autumn.” He has poetry awards from Viterbo University and the League of Minnesota Poets, and his poems have appeared in a number of anthologies and literary magazines. His writing has also appeared in USA Today, the Star-Tribune of Minneapolis, and other newspapers.
“These Humans” will be available for purchase at the reading and through Shipwreckt Books Publishing Company at www.shipwrecktbooks.com.
