Old Main will offer its signature “Musical Extravaganza” on Saturday, November 16, at 7:30 p.m. this year. Performances from Unaccompanied Minors, the popular young barbershop quartet becoming well known in the area, Julie’s School of Dance, Tom Dunkle with hits from Broadway, and the Chavolla Brothers’ jazz music will be new this year. Ron White with ragtime piano, The Higgins Brothers guitar and vocal, Reimer Revolution’s mix of string band and rock, and David Riley with “School Daze” stories, will all be back from earlier years. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for college students. The event is free to people in high school and younger. Intermission in the gallery with complimentary refreshments will be a part of the evening, as usual.
For extra art show viewing, the gallery will open at 5:30 p.m. to display Kathy Carlyle and Allen Sheldon’s nature photography, and Sam Bibby’s artistic welded creations. Refreshments will be served at that time, as well. Donations are always appreciated to maintain Old Main’s high quality programming.
Old Main’s Musical Extravaganza was started by Robyn Docken as a fundraiser to give the venue a viable future. If anyone knows the year when the “Musical Extravaganza” was first presented, the history committee would like to know. Acquisition of the Steinway grand piano in 2011 enhanced the high quality of programs offered. Old Main’s Musical Extravaganza has become an event to which many in the community look forward, because of the local talent featured.
