Winona Senior High school placed on lockdown

(11/21/2019)

Winona Senior High School was placed on lockdown on Thursday afternoon following an incident involving students. Winona Area Public School (WAPS) officials did not elaborate on the cause for the lockdown.

The school went into lockdown at approximately 2:15 p.m., law enforcement was called, and the situation was quickly resolved, according to WAPS. The school remained in lockdown for an hour in order for law enforcement and school administration to address the situation and maintain the safety of students and staff.

Assistant principal Isaac Matzek said that all students and staff are safe.

An afternoon bus transfer of elementary students that normally takes place at the high school was moved away from the school on to Lake Street, and district office staff were present at the transfer to help students find the right bus and remain safe. First-tier buses are still running on time.
