The Winona County History Center is reopen!

(7/8/2020)

The Winona County History Center reopened on June 22 with new temporary hours and safety policies in place. You may visit on Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the center is closed on Sundays and holidays. Masks are required for all visitors. The History Center also has hand sanitizer stations and updated cleaning policies.

The Museum Shop has great Winona gear and a new line of Wildflower gifts and books to accompany the current traveling exhibit. The Laird Lucas Library and Archives is also open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or you may email archives@winonahistory.org or call with your research inquiries. The center’s rental coordinator is also ready to help you safely have a smaller gathering at the History Center, and may be contacted at rentals@winonahistory.org.

For now, the children’s areas, Walking through Time and The Cube, are closed for your safety, but you may explore three floors of exhibits and the special exhibition, Wildflowers of the Upper Midwest: The Lydia E. Curtis Watercolor Collection, in the Slaggie Family Lobby through August 23.

“We have had a steady stream of visitors and are happy to be back open,” said visitor service manager Catherine Schmidt. “Everyone has been really great about wearing a mask and keeping a safe distance. I think families are happy for a safe place to explore and something to do out of the house.”

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for WCHS members and children ages seven and younger.  The WCHS’ Bunnell House and Rural Heritage Museum are closed for the season due to COVID-19. Organizers thank you for your support in ensuring that WCHS can continue to collect, preserve and share local history for everyone. You may also find more information, get updates, take a virtual visit, and stay engaged with local history at www.winonahistory.org, or call 507-454-2723.
