A 62-year-old Winona man reportedly drowned in East Lake Winona on Wednesday.
According to Winona County Sheriff Ron Ganrude, a 911 call was received at 12:16 p.m. near the Huff Street Visitors Center. The man reportedly fell off a paddle board into the lake, resurfaced, went underwater another time and did not resurface.
The area in which witnesses said the man appeared to have gone underwater was marked, according to Ganrude. The paddle board and some of the man’s personal effects were reportedly recovered. At about 3:05 p.m., the man’s body was recovered from East Lake Winona, Ganrude said.
The Winona County Sheriff’s Office, Winona Fire Department, Goodview Fire Department, Pickwick Fire Department and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene.
