Congratulations to Ben Matzke for being selected to participate in the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) All-State Choir for the 2017-2018 school year. The MMEA all-state choir camp was held in August, and the All-State Choirs will soon reconvene for another appearance and concert at the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association State Convention. This encore concert will take place at Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday, February 24, 2018. The all-state music students have the opportunity to work with some of the finest conductors and music educators in the country as well as meeting outstanding music students from all across the state of Minnesota. Matzke sings tenor 1 in the MMEA All-State Mixed Choir. The mixed choir conductor is G. Phillip Shoultz III, associate conductor with VocalEssence.
Matzke is senior at Cotter High School and is involved in Concert Choir, Show Choir, and Timeless (a select men’s ensemble). Matzke is a featured soloist at Cotter who has the prestigious honor of being in the MMEA All-State Choir for the past two years. Other choral accolades include Three Rivers All-Conference Choir for four years, University of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Honors Choir three years, Winona State University Honors Choir for two years, and Dorian Choir Festival for two years. He has additional honors that include all superior ratings on his MSHSL music contest solo work, and ensembles. He was also awarded “Best in Site” at the music contest with his solo work, and was a semi-finalist soloist at the Dorian Choir Festival at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
Ben is the son of Dean and Katy Matzke. He tentatively plans to attend Viterbo University in fall 2018. Congratulations again to Matzke for being a two-year member of the MMEA All-State Choirs! His choral director at Cotter Schools is Cathy Snyder.
