Winona Friendship Center members will receive a renewal letter a month before they need to renew their membership. Yearly memberships are $27 for individuals and $37 for a couple (two per household). Interested community members may stop into the center to renew or purchase a membership. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
2017 Active Wellness Center membership
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. WSU exercise science students are available for monitoring and training. The center has older adult friendly exercise equipment, and workout programs designed specifically for each individual. Release forms must be filled out prior to workout on the first day; forms will be faxed to participants’ doctors to avoid charges for an office visit.
Payment is required upon registering. The cost for members is $74 annually.

Blood pressure checks
On Thursday, December 7, and December 21, from 12-1 p.m. licensed nurses will provide free blood pressure checks.
Chair yoga with Tesla
Breathe, stretch and find a moment of peace. Increase your circulation and balance during this chair yoga class. Standing poses included but chairs are provided for assistance. There will be no class on December 22. The cost for members is $3.50 for each class. This series, instructed by Tesla Mitchell, will be held on Fridays, December 8-29, from 10:45-11:30 a.m.
Teleconference: Baikonur and the Soviet Space Race
This program is presented by the Inner Asian & Uralic Resource Center, and explain the space race, as seen from another side: the Soviet Union.
Take a look at their successes and failures as well as the modern reality of the Russian space program located in Kazakhstan.
Join in on Tuesday, December 12, from 1-2 p.m. Members may attend for free.
Activity Council holiday party
The holiday party will be on Wednesday, December 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for members is $7.50. There will be a chicken dinner at 11:30 and a cookie buffet. Bring one dozen holiday cookies to share!
Attend the annual meeting at noon and stay for a drawing to win one of two $25 gift cards. Wear your “ugly” Christmas sweater and join in for some holiday fun after the meeting!
Ray Felton will be reading some excerpts from “A Christmas Carol.”

John Latsch documentary
John Latsch (1860-1934), a humble and hard-working man, gifted Winona with a lasting legacy. He donated acreage to the city of Winona and the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin so the public could enjoy the pleasures of outdoor recreation. Join in for a showing of the John Latsch documentary on Friday, December 15, from 12-1:30 p.m., presented by Mary Farrell, followed by a question and answer session. Members may attend for free.
Stop by the center to read about the featured film, which is rated PG-13 and will be shown on Monday, December 18, from 1-3 p.m. Donations for the refreshments are greatly appreciated. Members may attend for free.
On December 19 from 9:30-11 a.m. Gloria Siewert from Caring Hands will provide hand massage. These sessions improve circulation, relieve tension in tendons, increase flexibility, reduce stiffness, and relieve anxiety and pain. Pre-registration and payment is required; the cost for members is $3.50.
