Elder Network welcomes new staff to lead Winona County

(4/22/2019)

Elder Network is pleased to welcome Barb Parker to lead Elder Network’s services in Winona County. Originally from St. Paul, Minn., Parker has spent the last 30 years in California, where while raising two daughters and continuing her education as an adult, she earned her Master’s Degree in counseling.

“My passion for working with seniors began 15 years ago while I was working in a long-term senior community, followed by work in the community management field, and now at Elder Network,” explained Parker. “I’m honored to join Elder Network to develop our services in Winona County. I look forward to meeting community members and offering Winona families support that allows seniors to stay in their homes longer.”

Parker will lead five programs in Winona County: friendly visiting, companion services, respite care, education and support.

“The need for Elder Network programs is growing in Winona. Many seniors are socially isolated and may need a hand around the house. Elder Network is here to help. We provide social visiting and companion services to help with shopping, cooking and light housework. Whether seniors are at home alone, with a caregiver, or in a senior living facility, Elder Network is here to provide support to help seniors’ maintain their health and independence.” Parker continued, “Sometimes caregivers need help, too. We offer respite care so a caregiver may take a break, and Elder Network offers two monthly caregiver support groups in Winona. We launched a new support group for partners of people living with memory loss in February. That group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m., and our general caregiver support group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. Both support groups meet in the Elder Network office conference room located at 51 West Fourth Street, Winona.”

If you know a senior or a caregiver that needs support, please contact the Winona office at 507-452-0580.
