The last Lanesboro Barn Dance of the 2018 season will be on Friday, September 14, at DreamAcres Farm, 17289 County Road 8, Wykoff, Minn. The starting time is at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $8 at the door; family rate of up to four is $20.00. Come and help celebrate the close of the 24th year of this traditional dance.
As always, the Lanesboro Barn Dance will feature traditional square dances, big circles and couples dances like waltzes, polkas and Schottisches. Square and circle dances will be taught and called by Paul Tyler. Known as “Dr. Do-Si-Do,” Tyler has been a mainstay of the Chicago Barn Dance and has previously called the Lanesboro Barn Dance several times, as well as the big dance at the Bluff Country Gathering.
Old-time string band music will be furnished by fiddler Fred Campeau, also from Chicago, and local favorite Bob Bovee on guitar and harmonica. Campeau has played with the legendary Volo Bogtrotters since the 1980s and is well known throughout the old-time music community.
No knowledge or dance experience is required, as all organized dances are taught and you don’t need to bring a partner. This is like the old-fashioned barn dances that were once the main entertainment in this part of the country. Just come prepared to have a good time; don‘t be shy about asking someone to hop out on the dance floor with you!
Come early for DreamAcres famous wood-fired pizza starting at 5 p.m.
