King Arthur’s Tales From Wales & More! at history center

Wild Wales Tours and Walkabouts will be sponsoring King Arthur’s Tales From Wales & More! at the Winona County History Center, 160 Johnson Street, on Wednesday, April 24, from 7-9 p.m.

Welsh-native Gareth Roberts from Llanberis, North Wales, is a mapmaker, photographer, astronomer and hiking guide, and will be the storyteller for the evening.

His book of night photography, “The Stars in their Tenderness,’” was published in 2011.
Roberts regularly appears on radio and TV programs in Wales, and he and his family live in the midst of Snowdonia National Park. The following evening, Thursday, April 25, there will be a presentation at the Celtic Junction in St. Paul, Minn., from 7-9 p.m. Both events are free to the public.

Wild Wales Tours & Walkabouts, now in its third year, takes guests from all over the world to visit Wales every spring and autumn. The trips have a sustainable approach. This means that the groups are small and are educated about history, heritage, and cultural practices, and they stay in eco-friendly or family-owned hotels, visiting less-touristed areas. Storytellers, musicians, historians, academics and archeologists join the guests and hikers along the way. Elen Huws, Welsh speaker and historian, is the tour guide on the 10-day bus tour starting in Llandudno and ending in Cardiff (20 people only) this coming September.

The walkabouts usually run six to eight days for eight to 10 people who stay in three- to four-star guesthouses. Hikers explore the Welsh Coastal Path and ancient paths up in Snowdonia National Park, visiting venerable sites along the way and connecting with the locals, walking seven to 10 miles per day. There are usually options for some to walk half-days, and be picked up and returned to the guesthouse.

Hywel Roberts, director of Wild Wales Tours & Walkabouts and a Native-Welsh speaker, is also on the bus tours and guides the walkabouts.
