Tuesday, December 29

•At 4:30 p.m. police were called to Shopko on a report of a shoplifter. Police cited Kyle Ray Ostrander, 18, of Winona, for theft by shoplifting, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police smelled the odor of burnt marijuana and found several pipes on Ostrander, as well as a bag of marijuana weighing 4.95 grams.

•At 6:08 a.m. police received a report of a burglary at a garage on the 700 block of East Third Street. A resident said that a vehicle was entered that was parked alongside the garage, some change was taken, and the garage door opener may have been used to gain access to the garage. Ice fishing gear and an Onko Integra amp valued at $3,000 was taken from the garage.

Thursday, December 31

•At 5:05 a.m. police were notified that two CP Rail engines had derailed from the tracks along the DM&E/CP Rail tracks at Bierce Street, Fifth Street and Broadway crossings. The engines remained upright and didn’t spill their loads. Rail officials believed the engines became derailed while the train was traveling at low speeds and that the incident was due to snow and ice on the tracks. Officials were able to move the engines by about 8:30 a.m.

Thursday, December 31

•At 4:31 a.m. police were called to a vehicle in the ditch on I-90 east of Wilson Township. Police detected the odor of alcohol on the driver, Benjamin James Endicott, 18, of Winona. He was cited for fourth degree driving while intoxicated and under 21 drinking and driving. His blood alcohol content was measured at .08 percent.
