Winona Police

Saturday, December 15

"At 4:06 p.m. a landlord checking a rental property found a front door open on the 200 block of East Howard Street. A window had been forced open on the door and the apartment appeared to have been rummaged through. One tenant reported video games missing.

Tuesday, December 18

"At 1:01 p.m. a landlord noticed a window broken from a residence on the 50 block of East King Street. The apartment appeared to have been ransacked but tenants didn't notice anything missing.

Wednesday, December 19

"At 1:09 a.m. police stopped a vehicle for having a loud exhaust and no license plate light near Fourth and McBride streets. Mark Robert Thomas, 24, of Winona, was cited for drunken driving, possession of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle, having a non-illuminated license plate and an object hanging from a rear view window. A passenger, Lonnie Alexander Sigmon, 21, of Minnesota City, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

"At 10:30 p.m. police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at the Handy Corner bar on the 700 block of East Fifth Street. Angela Sue Stanek, 22, of Winona, told police that she went to the bar to pick up a friend when she was confronted by Richard Wallace Grotjahn, 39, of Winona. She said that he tried to take her car keys and when she wouldn't give them to him he either pushed her or she tripped and hurt her knee. She said he raised his fist to her face as though he were going to hit her. He then took her purse and began hitting the car with it, breaking several windows. Police were unable to locate Grotjahn and mailed him citations for fifth degree domestic assault and disorderly conduct.

Thursday, December 20

"At 11:46 p.m. police pulled over Kristie Lee Hanson, 41, of Winona, at Hamilton and Belleview streets, just as she pulled into a driveway. Police said she was observed with a brakelight out and had thrown a cigarette out the car window. She was cited for third degree driving while intoxicated, littering and no proof of insurance. Her blood alcohol content was measured at .20 percent.

Friday, December 21

"At 1:20 a.m. police stopped Lucas Allen Hansen, 25, of Winona, at Broadway and Wilson Street for having a cracked windshield and expired registration. He failed a field sobriety test and was cited for third degree driving while intoxicated, driving after suspension and having a cracked windshield. His blood alcohol content was measured at .18 percent.

"At 1:21 a.m. police pulled over Damien LaMont Smith, 39, of Winona, after seeing him take a wide left turn and accelerate to 50 mph in a 30 mph zone at Sixth and Hamilton streets. He was cited for speeding and fourth degree driving while intoxicated. His blood alcohol content was measured at .17 percent.

District Court

Anne Marie Laehn, 24, of Winona, was charged with theft after she allegedly wrote bad checks worth $1,000 from a canceled account. Nicole Marie Pearson, 27, was charged in connection with the incidents for felony theft after she allegedly cashed the checks with her account.

Chandra Suzanne Fricke, 31, was charged with check forgery, possession of a forged check with intent to defraud and theft by check after she allegedly embezzled over $20,000 from a local bank she had worked at. According to the complaint, Fricke forged the signatures of two other employees with access to a general fund, depositing the money into an account under her name at another bank. She will appear in court January 15.
