Edna Sonsalla, 94, of 465 Hamilton Street, passed away peacefully at Sauer Memorial Home in Winona, on Christmas Day, December 25, 2007.
Edna was born to Frank and Sophie (Johns) Lucas on June 28, 1913, in Hart Township, Winona County. She married Thomas Sonsalla, the love of her life, on November 5, 1933. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1981. During WWII, she and her husband moved to Kansas City, KS, to work in a defense plant. They were there for two years and then returned to Winona to live out the rest of their lives. Edna was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church in Winona.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Carol (Fred) Buse of Winona, Jeff (Elaine) Kohner of Winona, Ed (Jane) Kohner of Winona, Mary (Don) Galuska of Rochester, Sylvia (Harold) Hengel of Rollingstone, Theresa (Francis) Hoffman of Rollingstone, Herb Speltz Jr. of Rollingstone, LeRoy (Marie) Speltz of Minnesota City, Peter (Maureen) Speltz of Rollingstone, Catherine Reiland of Rollingstone, Joe Reiland of Rochester, Eddie (Vi) Reiland of Rochester, Tom (Marlene) Reiland of Austin, Herb (Pam) Haack of Rochester, Betty (Steve) Maliszewski of Winona, and Don (Gayle) Haack of Winona. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her sisters: Irene (Leonard) Reiland, Sophie (Herbert) Speltz, Angeline (Frank) Maus, Agnes (John) Considine, Vergilia (Herbert) Haack, and Marie (Edward) Kohner.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Edna will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, December 29, 2007, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona with Monsignor Roy E. Literski officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona. Visitation will be held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on Saturday, December 29, 2007, from 9 AM until the time of the Mass.
Casketbearers will be Jeff Kohner, Dan Kohner, Don Galuska, Harold Hengel, Frederick Buse, and Quinn Holtan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sauer Memorial Home in Winona.
Our sincere thanks to Dr. Robert Wilfahrt and the staff at Sauer Memorial Home for all the wonderful care that Edna has received. A special thank you to Dan and Deb Kohner, Jeff and Elaine Kohner, and Ed and Jane Kohner for all the time and caring attention they gave to Edna in the nursing home, and also to Sylvia Hengel and Katie Reiland for all of the phone calls and support they gave to Edna.
