Joseph P. Orzechowski, age 85, of Winona, MN, died on Friday, December 28, 2007, at Lake Winona Manor.

Joseph was born in Winona, MN, on December 2, 1922, the son of Stephen and Mary (Banacik) Orzechowski. He was united in marriage with Anita Kostuck on June 17, 1944, in Boise, Idaho, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage this past June. Anita preceded him in death on November 3, 2007.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars-Neville Lien Post 1287. Joseph was also a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, the Polish Heritage Society, and the Polish Museum.

Joseph worked for 43 years at Peerless Chain in Winona, MN, and was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman and trapper. He also loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Joseph is survived by his children: Jolean (Mike) Wegner of Wales, WI; Tom Orzechowski of Florida; Gayle (Donald) Haack of Winona, MN; John (Ann) Orzechowski of Minnesota City, MN; and David (Linda) Orzechowski of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren: Adam and Clark Wegner; Matthew Orzechowski; Jennifer, Jonathon, Joseph, and Jeffrey Haack; Paul (April) Orzechowski, Jessica Orzechowski; and Philip Orzechowski; great- grandchildren: Aiden and Nevaeh Orzechowski; and Brayden Haack, son of Jeff Haack. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Henrietta (Tess) Young of Winona, MN; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Christine Orzechowski; his brothers, Casimer, Vincent, and Stanley; sisters, Angeline, Sophia, Cecelia, and Opal; and his twin sister, Stella.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday, December 31, 2007, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Winona, MN. The Reverend Thomas J. Hargesheimer officiated.

Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona, MN, where the Veterans of Foreign Wars Neville-Lien Post 1287 conducted full military honors.

Pallbearers were Joseph's grandsons: Paul Orzechowski, Matt Orzechowski, Jonathon Haack, Joseph Haack, Jeffrey Haack, and Philip Orzechowski. Honorary pallbearers were Adam Wegner and Clark Wegner.
