Wallace W. "Red" Farrand, age 72, of Fountain City, WI, died Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
Red was born October 15, 1934, in Fountain City, to Forrest and Christine (Engebretson) Farrand. He graduated from Fountain City High School and served in the United States Army. On March 2, 1957, he married Betty Tylka in Winona, MN. He was employed with the U.S. Corps of Engineers for 37 years, retiring in 1990 as lock master at Lock and Dam 5A and was a lifelong area resident.
Red was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Fountain City, and a long- time supporter of the Fountain City Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, but mostly his beloved Green Bay Packers.
Red is survived by his wife, Betty, Fountain City; four children: Craig (Bobbi Kochenderfer) Farrand, Fountain City; Jan (Jim) Dame, Lino Lakes, MN; Julie (Eric Nelson) Kremer, Eau Claire, WI and Todd (Kimberly) Farrand, Downingtown, PA; seven grandchildren: Brandy, Sam, Lauren, Taylor, Sarah, Erin, and Megan; one great-granddaughter, Madison; a brother, David (Liz) Farrand, Surprise, AZ; a sister, Mary Platteter, Arcadia, WI; a sister-in-law, Virginia Farrand, Mauston, WI, and other relatives.
He'll forever be loved and missed by his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ronald "Bones" Farrand.
Funeral services for Red will be Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at 11:00 AM at St. John's United Church of Christ, Fountain City, WI, with Rev. Fritz West, officiating. Interment will be at Fountain City Public Cemetery, Fountain City, WI. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Casket bearers will be Ronald Fetting, Randy Piel, Jill Engel, Sam Farrand, David Platteter, and Curtis Farrand.
