Rumpca, Michael L.


Michael L. Rumpca, age 54, of Winona, MN, went to be with his loving Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. He died of a heart attack.

He was born on April 8, 1954, in Winona, MN, to William Jr. and Betty (Googins) Rumpca. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Rumpca on September 6, 1975; she preceded him in death on November 27, 2004. Michael then married Sylvia Ann Hatcher, whom he found love and laughter with.

Michael was employed at Brom Foundry for 20 years. Michael, along with his dad, founded Rumpca Tri-State Salvage. He was known as “Iron Mike.”

Michael loved the Lord and was a member of the Apostolic Faith Family Church. He also served on the Richmond Town Board and was a FFA Alumni member having also served as its chapter president.

He loved fishing, hunting, and family. The yearly deer hunts were special to him. Mike loved to laugh and kid and enjoyed quiet evenings with Sylvia and Pugsly.

Michael is survived by his wife, Sylvia, Winona, MN, children, Andy (Renee) Rumpca, Fountain City, WI, and Amy (Ryan) Goergen, Winona, MN, grandchildren, Anna and Russell Rumpca and Megan, Kylee, and Aaron Goergen; parents, William Jr. and Betty Rumpca; siblings, Debra (Merritt) Bebout, Winona, MN, Doug (Kathy) Rumpca, Winona, MN, and William (Jody) Rumpca III, Winona, MN: stepsons, Keith (Heidi) Biddick and Ken (Renee) Biddick, stepdaughter, Sheila Baca, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, grandparents, Russell and Mamie Googins and Helen Rumpca Todd, and many other family members with whom he shared his life.

A celebration of Mike’s life was Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.

Reverend Ken Shirley of Full Gospel Assembly, Cochrane, WI, officiated. Burial was in Fremont Scottish Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ryan Goergen, John Albrecht, Mike Pehler, Keith Biddick, Garth Rumpca and Doug (Jr.) Rumpca. Honorary pallbearers were Andy Rumpca and Victor Suhr.

Mike would want everyone to know the party’s over—“Let’s go home now.”
