Bernard “Bernie” Misch, 94, of Arcadia, WI, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
He was born April 17, 1914, to Paul and Catherine (Bisek) Misch. Bernie spent his childhood in American Valley, growing up with three sisters, Clotilda, Angie and Dorothy, and two brothers, Herman and Edwin. On May 2, 1939, Bernie married Geraldine Kloss at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Arcadia.
In his younger years, Bernie helped out on area farms and as an auto mechanic at Peter Pyka’s garage in Arcadia. He moved to Milwaukee and became a mechanic there, but preferred Arcadia rather than the “big town”. Bernie dabbled in other ventures, including buying a laundromat in Arcadia and a white- washing machine to paint barns in the area. In his later years, he worked as the groundskeeper for the Arcadia Country Club. He took pleasure in the solitude of the early morning hours, especially seeing the sun come up and making friends with the deer that frequented the course. During his stay at Franciscan Skemp, Bernie was known for his friendliness and enjoying the company of other residents.
He is survived by one sister: Clotilda Haines of Arcadia; one brother: Herman Misch of Arcadia, two sisters-in-law: Gladys Kloss and Carol Kloss, both of Cudahy, WI, several nieces and nephews, and special neighbors: Jim Crowley family and Kevin Manley family.
Preceding Bernie in death were his wife, Geraldine, one brother, Edwin Misch, and two sisters: Angeline Welton and Dorothy Kokott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Holy Family Parish, with Father Michael Klos officiating. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Arcadia.
Friends may call from noon until 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
