Lester O. Olson, age 89, of Winona, died Monday, January 5, 2009, at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.

Lester Orain was born December 4, 1919, in Lanesboro, MN, to Andrew and Anna (Neshium) Olson. On November 20, 1948, he married Alvina Anfinson and she preceded him in death on June 29, 2003. Prior to moving to Winona, Lester worked with his brothers in Lanesboro and Fillmore County as a cement mason. He was employed for 30 years with USS Agri Chemicals of Winona, retiring April 12, 1984, as a foreman. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Winona.

Family was very important to Lester - he so enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lester is survived by five children: Allen (Nancy) Olson, Cologne, MN, Cynthia (Greg) Luther, Ormond Beach, FL, Debra (Dennis) Johnson, Goodview, MN, Deverett (Patti) Olson, Roseville, MN, Carl (Sue) Nelson, Little Canada, MN, and 13 grandchildren: Jennifer Spiering, Paul Olson, Annette Olson, Erica Reindl, Tanya Pumillo, Aaron Luther, Derek Johnson, Darin Johnson, Dalen Johnson, Jason Olson, Jessica Olson, Mandy Nelson, Kristen Nelson; seven great-grandchildren: Kailey Olson, Ashley Olson, Joren Olson, Anthony Pumillo, Xavier Johnson Ryan, Aidan Luther, and Maggie Reindl.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alvina, his parents; six sisters, three brothers, and granddaughter, Shannon Olson.

Services to remember Lester will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Central Lutheran Church, Winona, with Rev. Scott E. Olson officiating. Interment will be at Lanesboro Cemetery, Lanesboro, MN.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at the church.

Casket bearers will be his grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to: Watkins Manor, Saint Anne Extended Healthcare; or Central Lutheran Church childcare center.
