Dr. James Testor, age 86, of Winona, Minnesota, died Monday, December 26, 2011, at Lake Winona Manor in Winona.
James Vincent Testor was born on May 22, 1925, to Julius and Marguerite (McCusker) Testor in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jim graduated from Murray High School in 1943, then enlisted in the Army Air Force becoming a pilot. Following discharge he attended St. Thomas College, then the University of Minnesota Medical School, receiving his medical degree. Jim completed his internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul and his residency at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and the University of Minnesota Hospitals specializing in radiology. Following completion of his residency, moved to Winona in 1957 where he worked as a radiologist at Community Memorial Hospital and the Winona Clinic, being the first full time radiologist in Winona.
James was united in marriage to Mary Lewis in 1947. This union was blessed with four daughters: Cynthia, Roberta, Gail and Monica.
Jim loved spending his free time on the golf course, in his apple orchard and at the cabin in the North Woods with his family. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed the art of woodworking.
James was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a member of the Winona County Medical Society, the Minnesota Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Minnesota Radiology Society and the Radiological Society of North America. He was also a fellow in the American College of Radiologists.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Mary Testor of Winona, MN; Daughters: Cynthia (Janus) Butcher of Duluth, MN; Roberta (Don Bobber) Testor of Eden Prairie, MN; Gail (Jerry Schroeck) Testor of Winona, MN; and Monica (Steve) Bultena of Goodhue, MN; six grandchildren: Melissa, Jason, Ben Sarah, Alex and Nick; extended family and many friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Joe, Gerry and Paul.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Ben and Adith Miller Patient Care Fund through the Winona Health Foundation.
Memorial Mass will be Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona. Visitation will follow the service in the church basement. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona at a later date.
