Robert J. Mrkvicka, age 70, of La Crescent, Minnesota, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Robert was born on July 14, 1941, to William J. and Helen (Sims) Mrkvicka in Racine, Wisconsin.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army for many years, serving in France and Germany. In January, 1965 Robert was honorably discharged.
Robert worked as a receiving clerk at Massey Ferguson before retiring in 1990.
He was a kind man and was liked by many. Robert resided at the VA Mosher Home in La Crescent and was active at the VA Tomah, Wisconsin facility with his fellow veterans. He spent a lot of time outdoors, treasured the beauty of nature, took long walks and enjoyed fishing. Robert was an avid baseball fan and attended countless games. He also liked to spend time watching movies.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, William F. Mrkvicka of Fountain City, Wis.; sister, Frances Nelson of Black River Falls, Wis.; local niece: Cynthia (Gregory) Low of Austin, Minn.; great-nephew, Zachary Rupprecht; great-great-nephew, Hunter Holst; local niece and nephew: Kathryn (Tracy Jon) Randall of Winona, Minn.; and Daniel W. Mrkvicka of Winona, Minn.; great-nephew: Daniel M. (Ashley) Mrkvicka; other nieces and nephews: David Rosquist; Donald (Angie) Rosquist; Dennis (Cherri) Rosquist; and Karen Rosquist; other extended family and many friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held privately for the family.
Burial services with Military Honors at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona will be announced at a later date for family and friends.
