YMCA pairs with Habitat for Humanity

The Winona Family YMCA and Habitat for Humanity of Winona and Fillmore County are proud to announce a partnership offering free access to YMCA membership and programs to local Habitat partner families.

All current and future participants in Habitat’s home ownership and A Brush With Kindness programs will receive a three-month membership, and a free swim lesson or youth sports program for each child in the household at no cost.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Habitat partner families, and we are excited to partner with the YMCA. At Habitat, we believe in giving families the tools they need to build a better life. This new partnership gives access to health and wellness programs and facilities for the whole family. It can strengthen health, wellness and community engagement, and will be beneficial for people we serve of all ages and abilities,” said Amanda Hedland, Habitat executive director.

Derek Madsen, YMCA CEO said, “We’re excited about the opportunity to welcome Habitat participants to learn about the Y. We believe all people can enhance their wellbeing through Y programs.”

The idea for this partnership was generated at a recent meeting of Winona nonprofit leaders convened by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, the Winona Community Foundation, and Engage Winona.

“It is our hope that more of these kinds of mutually beneficial partnerships will come from regular meetings of Winona’s nonprofit leaders,” said Madsen.
