Winona Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church to highlight Martin Luther 500th anniversary with fascinating documentary-style series

Many people are surprised to learn that trust in organized religion has declined in recent years. In fact, the Pew Research Center recently released a report revealing that the Christian percentage of the population fell eight percent between 2007 and 2014. People are eyeing the Christian church with suspicion and some even feel betrayed by the news they hear about religion throughout the world. Are their fears justified? Did something go wrong at the dawn of Christianity?

Starting on November 2, during “A Pale Horse Rides,” Winona SDA Church will explore that question by studying what the Bible has to say about Christianity’s future. In addition, stories from the 1,200 years that led up to Martin Luther’s Reformation will illustrate this topic perfectly.

This series, hosted by Voice of Prophecy Speaker/Director Shawn Boonstra, will take a documentary-style, Bible-based approach to this topic. Boonstra recently traveled to countries such as Ireland and Germany to make history come to life and tell the story of an intriguing group of ancient barbarians who mysteriously converted and built their faith solely upon the words of the Bible.

“These fearless men and women lived their faith during some of this world’s darkest hours,” said Boonstra. “They paved the way for Luther ... as well as us! Your own faith will be deepened by what they accomplished.”

This series will address questions such as:

• What happened to the Christian churches outside of the Roman Empire?
• How, exactly, did our ancestors become Christians?
• How does the Bible deal with the fact that Christians are sometimes less than Christ-like?
• What would the church look like without the merger of church and state?
• How can we have the strong faith of our ancestors?

Winona SDA Church is thrilled to be hosting this series at The Tau Center. “A Pale Horse Rides” will involve both documentary-style and live elements, featuring local moderator Brian Beavers.

All are welcome to attend this free event, and all attendees will receive a copy of Boonstra’s new book, “A Pale Horse Rides.”

“During ‘A Pale Horse Rides,’ you will learn the stories that paved the way for Martin Luther’s Reformation and how they continue to echo through the lives of every person on earth today,” said Boonstra. “I hope you will join us for this intriguing study!”

Topics will include: Rome Is Burning, Barbarian Fire, and An Underground Movement.

“A Pale Horse Rides” begins on Thursday, November 2, at 7 p.m. in the Winona State’s Tau Center located at 511 Harrison Street in Winona. It will continue on November 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. You may register to attend on-site during this free event, by calling 888-457-1535 or going to
