Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center Crisis Line

Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center is ready for a change of hands at the end of the month when Minnesota’s Suicide Prevention Hotline shuts down. With the shutdown, the Mental Health Center’s crisis calls will now be routed to Zumbro Valley Health Center and then onto the organization if services are needed.

“The number will stay the same, 1-844-CRISIS2,” said HBL/Adult Community Based Services Director Christy Ferrington. “There is still a crisis line and there is still a mobile team that will come out and help.”

The phone line allows people dealing with mental health issues to be connected to community resources that will provide immediate counseling and help. A resource that many people are using due to the lack of mental health services in the area.

“Last year we had about 40 calls that we responded to,” said Ferrington. “This year we’ve already had a total of 52 calls. We expect the calls to double this year.”

Hiawatha Valley Mental Health responds to mental health issues in Winona, Houston, Wabasha and part of Fillmore counties.
