WNB Financial is pleased to announce two donations in the amount of $250 each to the Women’s Resource Center of Winona, and Backing the Blue Line. The donations were made possible from its Jeans Day collections, where employees choose to pay $2 on each Friday to wear casual jeans during the workday, with the proceeds benefitting local nonprofit organizations.
After soliciting nominations from employees, the bank’s public relations committee selected two organizations to support, the Women’s Resource Center, nominated by WNB Financial Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer Ellen Smith, as well as Backing the Blue Line, nominated by teller manager Claire Speedling.
The Women’s Resource Center of Winona was established in 1978 when there were no services for women who wanted to protect themselves and their children from a violent spouse or father, or for women who had been sexually assaulted. The center now serves all victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking no matter their gender, age, race, or socioeconomic status.
Backing the Blue Line is dedicated to supporting law enforcement wives, offering a forum to find and provide hope and support for each other through friendships, networking, discussion, and service. The organization supports the Minnesota law enforcement community by providing resources and emotional support to law enforcement officers and their families.
WNB Financial employees understand the importance of giving back to the community they serve. In 2017, 41 employees donated 1,711 hours of service to 84 local organizations. Over $297,500 was gifted to the community in the areas of education and youth programs, fine arts and culture, health and wellness, and community service.
