Walter “Shorty” Parpart, 93, lifelong resident of Winona, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.
Walter Frank was born on August 5, 1925, in Winona County, to Fred and Frances (Zimmerman) Parpart. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII, stationed in the Philippines. On March 20, 1954, he married Elaine Severson at Cedar Valley Lutheran Church and they raised seven sons. Shorty treasured the outdoors. He was a lifelong farmer. He also worked for the Winona Park and Rec department. In retirement, Shorty and Elaine would do lawn jobs.
Shorty is survived by his sons, Kirby, Karl (Tammy), Jase, Graham, Levi; brother, Fred (Betty) Parpart; sister, Lillian (Neil) Hinkley; former daughter-in-law, Paulette Parpart; sister-in-law, Elva Parpart; nieces and nephews; many more relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine (2011); and sons, Spencer (2018) and Curtis (2016); infant son, “god’s Little Angel”; brothers, John, Rudy and Richard; sisters, Bernice Woodard and Dorothy Nowlan.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Valley Lutheran Church with visitation starting one hour prior. Interment will be in the Cedar Valley Church Cemetery. Officiant will be Pastor Jeff Franko. Casket bearers are Kirby, Karl, Jace, Graham, Levi, Scott and David Parpart, Larry Hinkley, Justin Johnson. Military Honors will be provided by the Leon J. Wetzel American Legion Post 9.
