Niemeyer, Marvin Lawrence

(1/8/2019)

Marvin Lawrence Niemeyer, 80, of Winona, died on Monday, January 7, 2019, at his home. Marv was born on August 26, 1938, in Winona, to Adolph and Della (Brommerich) Niemeyer. He grew up around Winona and graduated from Winona Senior High School. After school, Marv joined the Air Force and was stationed in Germany along with his two brothers. After returning from the service, Marv married Carol Schmidt on October 20, 1962. The newlyweds welcomed three children into the world, Matthew, Christina, and Andrea. Marv led by example, teaching his children the value of hard work, respect, and love for each other and the Lord. He was very proud and active in his church, Goodview Trinity, where he served as an elder on many committees and helped start the community garden. He loved his family and Minnesota sports teams. He would faithfully watch the Vikings, Twins, Gophers, and any other Minnesota team. He touched many peoples’ lives through his love of bowling and his work at Ginny’s Supper club. He also worked as a manager at the Cozy Corner, Bay State, and was a police officer. In his later years he delivered papers for the Winona Post.

Marv is survived by his loving wife, Carol; children, Matthew (Heidi) Niemeyer, Christina Austin, Andrea (Richard) Frick; grandchildren, Bryan, Casey, Elizabeth, Harley, Jacob, Aaron, Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Gaven, Alexis, Eliza; and sisters-in-law, Barbara and Melba Niemeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Walter and Melvin, Marv’s twin.

A memorial service for Marv will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, with visitation starting at 10 a.m., at Goodview Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Ben Sadler will be officiating. Please view his tribute video and leave a memory of Marv at Hofffuneral.com.
