May 16, 1924 – May 18, 2019
Lola Emmagene (Woodard) Denzer, 95, of Winona, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019, in Winona, with her family and friends at her side. Lola was born on May 16, 1924, in Pickwick, Minn., to Austin Eugene and Mary Ann Sophia (Casler) Woodard, one of 10 children.
In 1940, she met Ray Wm Denzer and married him on December 29, 1940. They enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage before Ray’s death in 2010. During those years they traveled extensively to visit children and friends.
Lola began a career at Randall’s Ben Franklin Department when her youngest child started school in 1969. This was followed in 1982 with a sewers position at Wincraft until 2000. She was also a lifetime member of Weight Watchers where she touched many lives as a receptionist.
She was more than our mother/ grandmother/great-grandmother/great-great-grandmother. She was nurturer, our lifeline, our travel companion, our mentor, and our friend. She was our soft place to fall when life gave us an unkind turn.
She loved to crochet, knit and embroider, teaching it to anyone that wanted to learn. Lola loved to walk the small lake and listen to the high school marching band when they would practice. She and Ray would go to the Teamsters and dance Saturday nights away or play 500 with family and friends.
Lola is survived by daughter, Dr. LaRay Denzer of Evanston, Ill; daughter, Laurel (Allan) Moger of Minnesota City, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Pat Denzer of Winona, Minn.; daughter, Aloha Davis of Rochester, Minn.; son, Dallas (Corinne) Denzer of Minnesota City, Minn.; daughter, Nancy (Maynard Johnson) Denzer of Winona, Minn.; son, Robert (Cindy) Denzer of St. Charles, Minn.; daughter, DeAnn Denzer of Terrell, N.C.; 36 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wm; son, Raymond; son-in-law, Richard Davis; her parents; four brothers, Arnold, Clayton, Aaron and Merritt; and five sisters, Catherine Woodard, Edna Warnken, Sylvia Albrecht, Dora Fraunkron and Gloria Denzer.
Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 368 West Broadway, Winona, Minn., with Ryan Denzer-Johnson and Jeff Denzer leading. Following the service Lola will be buried at Oakland Cemetery, Minnesota City.
