Hagen, Doris ‘Dory’ Belinda Dvergsten Lanswerk

Doris “Dory” Belinda Dvergsten Lanswerk Hagen of Stewarville, Minn., and formerly of Spring Grove, Minn., passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, after a day filled with love from her children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dory was born on December 18, 1922, at her home in Spring Grove, Minn., to Jorgena (Bjergum) and Julius Dvergsten. She attended Spring Grove Public High School, Winona Business College as well as Secretarial School in La Crosse. Dory was a bank teller at Onsgard/Jennings State Bank for 23 years before retiring at age 69.

Dory married Jerry Lanswerk on July 8, 1945, and they were blessed with four children, Carol, Craig, Nancy and Cindy. Jerry passed away in 1961.

On August 27, 1971, Dory married Everett Hagen. Dory and Everett enjoyed raising their blended family, which also included Everett’s children, Greg, Kris and Laurie.

Dory was a lifetime member of Spring Grove Trinity Lutheran Church and active in the Eve Circle. She was a Cub Scout den mother, as well as a member of the Legion Auxiliary and her neighborhood bridge club.

While Dory was gifted at sewing, knitting, crafting, and decorating, it was her selfless devotion and nurturing love for her family that will have the strongest and most lasting impact on those who survive her.

Despite trials that could have broken others, Dory was filled with gratitude for everything in life: her 90 years in Spring Grove, her faith, her Norwegian heritage and especially her family of 83! Her gratitude enabled her to live every day to its fullest, enjoying the simple pleasures of assembling jigsaw puzzles, listening to music, playing rummy, reading and Facebooking.

She is survived by two sons, Craig (Sharon) Lanswerk and Greg (Mary) Hagen, Winona, Minn.; five daughters, Carol (Wayne) Olson, Glenville, Minn., Nancy Hylland, Stewartville, Minn., Cindy Lanswerk, Rochester, Minn., Kristeen (Douglas) Thompson, Rochester, Minn., and Laurie (Todd) Jensen, Savage, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Dory was preceded in death by Jerry Lanswerk; Everett Hagen; her brothers, Maurice and Mervin Dversgten; sister, Julia Guttormson; half-brothers, Pedar, Peter, James Carlin (Happy), and Harry Dvergsten; half-sister, Helen Busse; and son-in-law, Ray Hylland.

Visitation will be on August 28, 2019, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove from 9-11 a.m. Her celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Season’s Hospice, 5650 Weatherhill Road, Rochester, Minn., 55902; or to Spring Grove Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was a quiet woman whose actions spoke volumes … We will miss you, Mom … Love you ...
