A new fundraiser for the Winona County Historical Society this August
A new fundraiser for the Winona County Historical Society, the Great Winona County History Hunt, takes you across Winona County on a fun-filled scavenger hunt at historic locations. Get your map and take the adventure through Winona County to find fun facts and stories at each site along the way for a chance at $500!
Maps go on sale at 10 a.m. on August 10 and are available until 4 p.m. on August 24, 2020, at the Winona County History Center (160 Johnson Street, Winona). They are $10 each and you may buy as many as you wish for more chances to win. Each location has its history hunt fact posted on a special sign. You may choose to safely explore more at each location or not. Do the history hunt in any order, any time during the timeframe, but get your completed maps back to the History Center by 4 p.m. on August 24 to be entered for the $500 cash prize! The first 10 individuals or teams to complete their maps and turn them in receive a free family membership worth $50 to the WCHS. The first 20 receive a Winona County history book, “City Mouse, Country Mouse.” Individuals, family or friend teams may participate, but one grand prize and one membership/book per team or individual entry will be awarded.
All proceeds benefit the Winona County Historical Society and this event is proudly sponsored by Lewiston Auto, celebrating 100 years. Check out the Lewiston Auto 100th Anniversary Car Show on August 22 from noon to 6 p.m. Lewiston Auto, in conjunction with the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America’s Viking Region, will host an all-Chevrolet car show on Saturday, August 22, 2020, to celebrate 100 years in business. The feature of the show will be a special collection of Chevrolets from 1920 to 2020, showcasing the changes in technology and design over the last 100 years.
Organizers thank you for your support in ensuring that WCHS can continue to collect, preserve and share local history for everyone. The Winona County History Center is open!
