Michael L. Hengel passed away on June 15, 2020, in his home in Winona.
He was born on January 20, 1932, in Rollingstone, Minn., to Michael Hengel Sr. and Eleanor (Guenther) Hengel. He grew up in Rollingstone, and graduated high school there.
He married Barbara Helzer in 1952, and they had four daughters. They were later divorced and he married Audrey Prenatt, and she passed away in 2008.
He is survived by his daughters, Holly Palbicki, Jill Lindman, and Wendy Winegar; step-son, Jeffrey Prenatt; and his very special friend, Darlene Walsh. A daughter, Tracy Hengel, preceded him in 2017. His parents, three sisters, and brother also preceded him.
Mike was well-known for his 53 years as a Winona Area Barbershopper, he was a founding member of “The Misterssippis” and several other quartets. His big booming bass voice and his rendition of “Little Teapot” will always be remembered.
Due to COVID-19, private family services are being planned.
