Gerry Masyga, age 88, formerly of Winona, died on July 13, 2020, at Tempe, Ariz.
Gerry was born in Winona, Minn., on January 7, 1932, to Vincent and Adelaide (Breza) Masyga. He was the sixth of six children. He attended Jefferson School and Cotter High School, graduating in 1950. He married Mary Kay Mayer of Winona on September 15, 1951, in St. Joseph Church, Winona.
After marriage Gerry worked as a supervisor at Biesanz Stone Quarry until 1973. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and served as a volunteer in the 1960s. He was president of the Winona St. Joseph Society from 1960-1963, and the Grand Sachem of the Redmen’s Club from 1971 to 1973.
In 1973 the family moved to Tempe, Ariz. Gerry was owner-manager of the Chandler AZ Dairy Queen Brazier for 16 years before retiring in 1990. Gerry was the chairman of the IDQ Western States Advertising and Marketing Council from 1989-90, when he retired. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Elderhostels and other places after retirement. He also enjoyed doing many things with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; six children, Kathy (Michael) McGee, Lakeland, Fla., Paula (Glen) Hubbard, Winona, Tom (Dawn) Masyga, Jerri Masyga, Laurie (Ken) Masyga-Schultz, and Bonnie (Anthony) Jaramillo of Arizona; 15 grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, and Jared Hubbard of Winona, Kevin, Julie and Sarah McGee of Lakeland, Fla., Monica, Patricia, Ca, Catrina, Carlos, Rita, and Ricardo Garcia of Chandler, Ariz., Kailey Masyga of Mesa, and Samantha and Sara Schultz of Chandler, Ariz.; and many great-grandchildren. His parents; brothers, Richard, Robert, and Conrad; and two sisters, Patricia and Delores, preceded him in death.
Due to the current pandemic, a private family gathering will take place at a future date. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona, Minn.
