A Matter of Faith: Prayer or protest

From: Philip Sorensen

The tragic school shooting in Florida has generated a wave of protest against gun violence, and rightly so. This tragedy should never have happened. It is easy to blame the President, the FBI, law enforcement and law makers and fail to see the underlying problem. We have a spiritual and moral problem in America today. Guns have been a part of our culture since the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. These were men and women had some spiritual and moral principles that defined their lives. They feared God and had respect for one another.

Inflammatory rhetoric and loud demonstrations are not going to resolve anything. I can appreciate the pain that students, teachers and parents are feeling. What happened hurts all of us. As we have legislated God out of our government, educational systems, and society in general, violence and corruption have escalated. Religion, family and moral principles are what have made America great in the past, and can restore us again to greatness.

Our nation has just lost a spiritual giant with the death of Dr. Billy Graham. But his message of repentance toward God and faith in Christ is still the answer to a lot of our problems. I believe we can accomplish more by prayer than by protest. Think about it!
