Two community events will be offered by the Winona Interfaith Council (WIC) in the coming week. The first is a presentation, hosted by the Winona Sanctuary Network, from John Rosenow and Mercedes Falk of the Puentes/Bridges Project, a nonprofit organization helping farming communities in West Central Wisconsin and Southeast Minnesota to bridge the cultural and language gaps between Mexican workers, the farmers with whom they work, and the communities in which they live. The presentation will be on Monday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Church, 1303 West Broadway, in the common room.
Then, on Tuesday, March 12, at 7 pm. at Wesley United Methodist Church (114 West Broadway), there will be a screening of “A Fearless Heart,” a video about Thupten Jinpa, the highly acclaimed thought leader and English translator of the Dalai Lama. Jinpa teaches how compassion works as a powerful inner resource that can yield surprising and compelling benefits. Based on the revolutionary course in compassion cultivation training at Stanford University that Jinpa helped to create, “A Fearless Heart” shows people that compassion can be a path through suffering, a key to robust health, and an effective way to reach goals.
