Bridge crash Wednesday causes life-threatening injuries

A Fountain City woman is facing life-threatening injuries after a crash on the Highway 43 Interstate Bridge on Wednesday.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Jacquelyn M. Lettner, 68, was crossing the bridge when her vehicle reportedly crossed the centerline and struck an incoming Chevy Impala at 2:28 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22.

Lettner was transported to Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, Wis., for the treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Impala, Bradley Caleb Burgess, 67, and passenger, Kathryn Jonell Burgess, 56, both of Louisville, Ky., were transported to Winona Health for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Cars were backed up throughout downtown Winona and on Huff Street for about an hour after the accident while the bridge was closed to traffic.

The Winona Police Department, Winona Fire Department, and Winona Area Ambulance assisted at the scene.
