Friday, February 1

• At 4:55 p.m. deputies assisted the Minnesota State Patrol and emergency medical responders with a one-vehicle crash on Highway 61 near John Latsch State Park. A 32-year-old Winona woman was airlifted to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis., for the treatment of serious injuries.

Saturday, February 2

• At 1:13 p.m. deputies arrested Jeffrey Charles Podolske, 52, of Rochester, Minn., on suspicion of fourth-degree driving while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving, and driving after suspension after he allegedly went off the road near Frank Street and Martina Road in Minnesota City. Deputies received multiple reports from witnesses of a black Lincoln crashing into the ditch and two people walking away from the vehicle, including one witness who identified Podolske as one of the occupants. According to the report, Podoloske claimed he had not been driving, but deputies reportedly found the key to the Lincoln and a marijuana pipe on his person. A preliminary breath test measured his blood-alcohol level at 0.06 percent.

• At 3:13 a.m. deputies arrested Dean Thorton Heavyrunner, 21, of Browning, Mont., and referred him to prosecutors for charges of fourth-degree driving while intoxicated at Eighth and Winona streets in Winona after receiving a report of a man asleep inside a parked vehicle. Deputies reportedly found Heavyrunner’s vehicle parked askew and Heavyrunner at the wheel with his eyes closed. He allegedly admitted to drinking and driving, and a breath test measured his blood-alcohol content at 0.14 percent.

Friday, February 1

• At 10:57 p.m. officers arrested Veronica Kay Hennen, 21, of Rice, Minn., and referred her to prosecutors for charges of third-degree driving while intoxicated after stopping her at Huff and King streets for driving without headlights. Officers allegedly noticed an open bottle of alcohol in Hennen’s backseat and reported that she had bloodshot, watery eyes. A preliminary breath test measured her blood-alcohol content at 0.16 percent.


• At 11:26 p.m. officers arrested Georgette Lynn Topalis, 19, of Arlington Heights, Ill., and referred her to prosecutors for charges of fourth-degree driving while intoxicated after stopping her at Broadway and Center Street for reportedly driving with a suspended object obscuring her windshield. A preliminary breath test measured her blood-alcohol content at 0.15 percent, according to the report.

Saturday, February 2

• At 10:25 p.m. officers ticketed Zachary Alexander Oberg, 20, of Winona; Jordan Hunter Oberg, 20, of Winona; and Dylan Bradley Hane, 20, of Winona for hosting a loud party at the 500 block of Center Street.

Sunday, February 3

• At 2:46 p.m. officers ticketed Crystal Ann Shines, 19, of Winona, for theft by shoplifting for allegedly stealing over $150 in merchandise from Walmart.

Monday, February 4

• At 2:06 p.m., officers ticketed Lawrence John Falk, 58, of Winona, with trespassing after officers found him inside a foreclosed home near Lenox and North streets.


Monday, February 4

• At 9:30 a.m. officers arrested Brady Axel Anderson, 23, of rural Winona, and referred him to prosecutors for felony possession of shoplifting tools and theft after he was allegedly caught on video using a tool to cut a security lock off a camera at Target and stealing the camera.

Monday, February 4

• Prosecutors charged Johnny William Cauthers, 66, of Winona, with a third-degree controlled substance crime — sale of methamphetamine — following a Winona Police Department investigation. According to the complaint, Winona officers and a confidential informant set up a controlled buy on June 15, 2018, in Winona and purchased 3.11 grams of methamphetamine from Cauthers.
