Eugene F. Passe, age 79, of rural Rochester, died early Sunday, December 24, 2006, at his home with his loving family at his side while celebrating their Christmas. He was born August 14, 1927, in Wabasha, the son of Charles and Leona (Stroot) Passe. He graduated from Rochester High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. Following the service he began his career as a union carpenter, working for over 50 years for the O. A. Stocke Construction Company and other union construction companies in Rochester. He also farmed in rural Rochester while working in construction, farming until the time of his death. He married Francis Lentz November 6, 1950, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester.
Gene was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester where he served as an usher for many years. He was a charter member of the Perpetual Adoration group at Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester. He was a member of the Rochester Knights of Columbus. He was a 54-year member of the carpenter's union and a member of the Mechanical Round Table. He was a member of the historical societies of Wabasha, Olmsted and Fillmore counties and a member of the Rochester Genealogy Society. He had served for several years on the Olmsted County School District 1363 School Board. He was an active volunteer member of the Southeastern Minnesota Rural Education Resource Center in St. Charles. He also was a member of Ground Swell, a farmer's organization. His interests included meeting and visiting with people, antiques, especially tools, tractors, bicycling, driving, politics and studying history.
Gene is survived by his wife, Francis Passe, Rochester, MN; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Sandra Passe, Rochester, MN, Kevin and Beverly Passe, Redwood Falls, MN, David and Mary Passe, River Falls, WI, Derrick and Cheryl Passe, Hudson, WI; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Patterson, Manitowish, WI; 12 grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, Earl and Yvonne Passe, Rochester, MN, Joann Passe, Lithia, FL; nieces, nephews and cousins. Twin sons, one daughter, Gwendolyn, his parents and one brother, Paul, preceded him in death.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at 1:30pm at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend William Kulas officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery. Bearers will be David Jones, Dick Jones, Everett Grabau, Bill Leisen, Mike Kelly, Roman Walsh, Audie Krivjanick, Russell Bleifus, Gene Campbell and John Donovan.
