Orphie A. Benusa, 85, of Arcadia, WI, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
She was born April 27, 1921, in Rochester, MN, to Irwin and Amy (Dittrich) Rosenow. Orphie graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1939. On October 23, 1939, she married Albert Benusa at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, WI, and together they celebrated 67 years of marriage. They made Waumandee their home until moving to Arcadia in October 2001.
Orphie was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, and the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Garden Valley Homemakers for over 50 years, and was proud to be known for her excellent candy- making and Hardanger Embroidery. For 16 years, she served as clerk for the town of Waumandee.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Benusa of Arcadia; four daughters, Mary Lou (Kent) Halling of Rochester, MN, Patricia (Jeff) Hanke of Jackson, MO, JoAnn (Chuck) Blaschko of Arcadia, and Beatrice (Jim) Haines of Pepin, WI; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Preceding Orphie in death were her parents and an infant sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, December 30, 2006, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, with Father Michael Klos officiating. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Sheila Bitz, Bryan Bystrzycki, Chris Blaschko, Jessica Haines, Joe Slaby, Bill Olson, and Brian Pronschinske. Honorary bearers were members of the Garden Valley Homemaker's Club, Darlene Slaby, Charlotte Bremer, Adeline Rippley, Rose Hillig, Marlett Becker, Fern Reuter, Ruth Schaffner, Lorraine Schmidtknecht, and Mary Waters.
