Howard L. Engle, age 67, of Maple Springs, rural Lake City, MN, died Sunday, December 28, 2008, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Wabasha. He was born May 8, 1941, in Preston, MN, the son of Anona and Almeda (Bremseth) Engle. He married Judy Hemann March 9, 1968, in Harvard, IL. They later divorced. Howard worked as a carpenter in commercial construction for several companies throughout Southern and Southeastern Minnesota. He moved to Maple Springs in 1988.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes. He also enjoyed cooking and baking and playing cards and visiting with his friends.
Howard is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Steve Zahradnik, Rose Creek, MN, Vanessa and Billy Langham, Monte Vallo, AL; three grandchildren, Megan and Bryce Zahradnik and Katlynn Langham; mother, Almeda Engle, Austin, MN; sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Al Monson, Belvidere, IL; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Mary Johnson, Wabasha, MN. His father, Anona Engle, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 1:30pm at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha, MN, with the Reverend LeRoy Haynes officiating.
