William “Bill” Laehn, age 65, of Winona, Minnesota, died Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Winona Health.
William Herman was born November 10, 1946, to Rosvil and Rosella (Hohmann) Laehn in Arcadia, Wisconsin. Growing up he attended school and graduated from Gilmanton High School in Gilmanton, Wisconsin. After graduation, he continued his education for two years at Winona State University and later graduated from Harding Beauty School in Winona.
Bill worked for Daniel O’Brian before buying the salon in 1968 and turning it into “Laehn’s Hair Salon”. He owned and operated the business for many years before his retirement.
Bill was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he was also involved with the Knights of Columbus #639 in Winona. He was active at the YMCA, a member of Sunrisers Kiwanis of Winona and the National Hair Dressing and Cosmetology Association.
Those left to cherish his memory include his siblings: Vira (Robert) Plumley of Knapp, Wis., John (Linda) Laehn of Eau Claire, Wis., Landa (James) Dekan of Mondovi, Wis., Jeffery (Judy) Laehn of Gilmanton, Wis., and Susan (John) Schultz of Mondovi, Wis., 11 nieces and nephews; other extended family and many friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Garett Kipp.
Memorial Mass will take place Monday, January 9, 2012, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona, with Reverend James Berning presiding. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the Visitation Commons at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A private burial will take place at St. Boniface Cemetery in Waumandee, Wis.
Bill requested that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
